چکیده
We have studied the structure of K−pp comprehensively by solving this threebody system in a variational method, starting from the Ansatz that the Λ(1405) resonance (≡ Λ∗) is a K−p bound state. The structure of K−pp reveals a molecular feature, namely, the K− in Λ∗ as an “atomic center” plays a key role in producing strong covalent bonding with the other proton. We point out that strongly bound K̄ nuclear systems are formed by “super strong” nuclear force due to migrating real bosonic particles K̄ a la Heitler-London-Heisenberg, whereas the normal nuclear force is caused by mediating virtual pions. We have shown that the elementary process, p+p → K++Λ∗+p, which occurs in a short impact parameter and with a large momentum transfer, leads to unusually large self-trapping of Λ∗ by the involved proton, since the Λ∗-p system exists as a compact doorway state propagating to K−pp.

Super strong nuclear force caused by migrating K̄ mesons - Revival of the Heitler-London-Heisenberg scheme in kaonic nuclear clusters
We have studied the structure of K (-) pp comprehensively by solving this threebody system in a variational method, starting from the Ansatz that the Λ(1405) resonance (≡Λ (*)) is a K (-) p bound state. The structure of K (-) pp reveals a molecular feature, namely, the K (-) in Λ (*) as an "atomic center" plays a key role in producing strong covalent bonding with the other proton. We point out ...
متن کاملInterplay between Yukawa and Tomonaga in the Birth of Mesons
Light is shed on the early stage in the birth of Yukawa’s meson theory, particularly on the interplay between Yukawa and Tomonaga in 1933. The discovery of the muon by Nishina’ group in 1937 is also reviewed. It is pointed out that Heisenberg’s attempt to explain the nuclear force in terms of the Heitler-London scheme, overcome by Yukawa and abandoned since then, is now being revived as a mecha...
متن کاملThe Quest for Pionic and Kaonic Nuclear Bound Systems Following Yukawa and Tomonaga
After sketching some historical events related to Yukawa and Tomonaga concerning the birth of mesons, the author describes recent developments in the spectroscopy of pion-nucleus bound states via “pion-transfer” reactions. The role of pions as Nambu-Goldstone bosons in nuclear media is emphasized by recently obtained experimental evidence for the partial restoration of chiral symmetry breaking....
متن کاملStrange mesons in nuclear matter at finite temperature
We study the properties of K and K̄ mesons in nuclear matter at finite temperature from a chiral unitary approach in coupled channels which incorporates the sand p-waves of the kaon-nucleon interaction. The in-medium solution accounts for Pauli blocking effects, mean-field binding on all the baryons involved, and π and kaon self-energies. We calculate K and K̄ (off-shell) spectral functions and s...
متن کاملOverview of K̄-Nuclear Quasi-Bound States
The K̄-nucleus interaction near threshold is strongly attractive and absorptive as suggested by fits to the strong-interaction shifts and widths of K−-atom levels [1]. Global fits yield ‘deep’ optical potentials with Re VK̄(ρ0) ∼ −(150 − 200) MeV [2–5], whereas more theoretically inclined studies that fit the low-energy K−p reaction data, including the I = 0 quasi-bound state Λ(1405) as input for...
